WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN
Pediatric obesity is the new epidemic which has pediatricians
and parents all over the country worrying about the health outcomes of
these children who have started a lifelong road to poor health, early deaths,
morbidity and under achievement of potential. At the Healing Arts Center
For Children, Dr. Mavani has devised a unique program involving lifestyle
and dietary changes for the parents and the child. It combines the principles
of modern medicine and nutrition with alternative philosophies to balance
the child’s constitution.
The program is year long as we don’t think it
is healthy for a child to lose weight quickly, as it can compromise growth.
This program is suitable for children from ages 5 through 18.
First visit is typically covered by insurance. We screen for thyroid disease,
metabolic syndrome, feeding disorders and other endocrine problems that
may be causing the weight gain.
The patient is then asked to keep a food diary with
food portions and times. Food diary is reviewed and calorie counts obtained
at the end of the week. This visit lasts 1 hour and is 120 dollars.
Program is outlined and reviewed. Daily meetings for exercise sessions
with mat work and yoga lasting 30 minutes in the evenings and review of
daily food intake. Fee per session is 60 dollars.
Twice a week meetings with diet and exercise regimen reviews. Fee per session
is 60 dollars.
Once a week meetings for diet and exercise review with assistant and once
a month with physician. Patient starts weight measurements. Fees per session
is 50 dollars.
Once a week reviews with assistant and once a month review with the physician.
Fees for sessions with assistant visits: 20 dollars, physician visits:
75 dollars.
As outlined, the fee on a monthly basis is 145 dollars
a month. If extra sessions are incurred, they are 75 dollars an hour.
