CORONAVIRUS INFORMATION
A Message from Doctors for Kids
Dear DFK families,
As you are aware, Michigan has more than 30,000 cases of COVID-19. Our office has been preparing for this inevitability. I want everyone to know we are here to help. First of all, I want everyone to breathe and realize that most precautions are being taken out of an abundance of caution and to contain spread to high risk populations. Kids are at the least risk which to all of us as parents is reassuring. The prevalence of case makes our community more susceptible and we have to take extra precautions.
When you call our office, you will be triaged by the receptionist and then by Nurse. Patients are being triaged per American Academy of Pediatrics and CDC guidelines. Our aim is to continue excellent care but provide more phone care and telehealth care for children that can be managed without leaving their homes at least for the next 14 days. The guidelines are also calling for swabs to be not done at offices to minimize droplet spreads from coughing and sneezing. You will be brought in only if we feel that after speaking with you, it is necessary. Patients that have concerns of coronavirus can go to our website for health dept numbers and hotlines to call for guidance.
Quest, Beaumont, and other labs are now equipped for all swabs including COVID-19 testing. However, the availability is still very limited.
Insurances are allowing for care coordination and telehealth billing so you will see charges for the same when you receive care. Please note that quite a few insurance companies are waiving copays for telehealth services through the primary care provider. Please check with your insurance company.
We have a dedicated "sick" suite with 3 rooms in Suite 11 next door. This allows us to maintain separation of patients who come in for sick and well visits.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we do what is best for you and our community to keep everyone safe.
Warm regards,
Ami Mavani, MD and the Team at DFK
